Here we will introduce the history of coffee. The horizontal axis shows the eras, and the vertical axis shows three items: areas where coffee has been consumed, areas where coffee has been cultivated, and how coffee has been drunk. After first being consumed in Ethiopia, coffee came to be drunk by Islamic people in the Arabian Peninsula, and then in the 17th century spread via Turkey to Europe. Since coffee could not be cultivated in Europe, there started to be competition between nations trying to cultivate coffee in their colonies. The Netherlands was the first such nation to achieve success, supplying coffee throughout Europe. Since then, many cafes have been established in Europe and a European coffee culture has come into existence.
