Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing the world today and in the future. We believe business has a role to play in making a meaningful contribution to limiting global warming, and we will evolve our actions and measures to reduce and eliminate greenhouse gases, as we work towards our ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
There are three scopes of greenhouse gases for which we are concerned. Scope 1 consists of greenhouse gases directly emitted by UCC Group companies. Scope 2 covers greenhouse gases indirectly emitted by UCC Group factories and offices through the use of electricity, etc. Scope 3 concerns greenhouse gases indirectly emitted by companies outside the UCC Group. We are looking into measures for reducing emissions related to the greenhouse gases for each of these categories.
We have set a medium-term goal for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
For our Scope 1 and 2 emissions from our direct operations, we will carry out concrete actions to help reduce and eliminate our greenhouse gas emissions where we can, promoting conversion to cleaner energy sources, and co-developing new technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at their source.
Greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 3 are published in the Sustainability Report 2024.
